Direct Emergency Rescue and Recovery of Casualties from Confined Spaces

This unit is for anyone who directs the activities of a team for rescue or recovery in confined spaces. This may include rescue team leader, coordinator, entry controller/top person or supervisor in relation to rescue and recovery of casualties, planning and preparing for emergency operations, mobilising rescue teams, directing and monitoring rescue activities, reporting and securing sites after incidents or emergencies.

Course outcomes

  • On successful completion of the course, the student will have demonstrated their competence, knowledge and skills enabling them to meet the City & Guilds requirements to:

         Plan and prepare emergency operations for rescue team

         Mobilise a rescue team and direct entry and exit to the confined space

         Monitor a rescue team to ensure procedures are followed

         Understand the principles of working as rescue team leader

         Understand rescue team leader duties and responsibilities

Entry Requirements

     High Risk Confined Space Entry award (City & Guilds 6160-03 or equivalent 3 day training)

     Member of a Rescue and Recovery Team (City & Guilds 6160-08 or equivalent 3 day training)

     At least one of the above must have been renewed or gained within the last 3 years

     Aptitude for difficult work in confined spaces

     Fit for operational duties

     Physical fitness for strenuous training

     Clean shaven each morning of training
 

Course Duration

1 day with 8 hours contact time
 

Assessment

Course  content  is  assessed  by  a  combination  of direct observations   of   set   tasks,   question   and   answer, a short answer externally set exam and scenario based assessment. Individual feedback is provided.
 

Certification

This course can be certified by City & Guilds or by Outreach Rescue upon meeting the assessment criteria. For City & Guilds certification, there is an additional fee of £45, and printed certificates are provided. There is no additional fee for digital Outreach Certification, and results are recorded on the Outreach Rescue Database.   

Certification is valid for 3 years.
